Aim:
We aim to identify and challenge our most gifted and talented pupils in order to motivate them and help them to reach their full potential.
How are G & T students identified?
We define a "gifted student" as someone working above the expected level for their year group in an academic subject and a "talented student" as above their expected level in a creative arts subject.
Students from Year 7 to 13 can be on our G&T register. Nominations are usually made by subject teachers and are based on assessment results and classroom observations. Information from students and parents on activities our students are involved in out of school can also be considered e.g. playing for a county or national team, grade exams for musical ability. Due to the changing nature of students' abilities the nominations are reviewed annually. Those on the G&T register will receive a letter home giving details of their nomination.
Each year we aim to have approximately 10% of the school cohort on our register.
Provision:
- Differentiation in the classroom - open ended tasks, higher level work, appropriate exam courses
- Enrichment activities - trips, events with outside agencies, some subject based others of a more generic nature
- Membership of External Agencies - YG&T, NAGC, NACE
- After school classes and clubs to develop interests and skills further
External Agencies:
