The School Aim is "Achieving Together"
The aim of The Beacon School is that each pupil will achieve the highest standard of excellence in every aspect of school life.
Behaviour and Discipline
The Beacon School has high expectations of all its students and these expectations are embodied in our achievement culture and behaviour policy.
The school's Code of Conduct stresses respect and the need to show care, courtesy and consideration at all times.
The Beacon School has a graduated system of rewards to acknowledge our students achievements. These rewards are accessible to all students for a wide range of achievements:
- Merit marks; Good News slips
- Postcards sent home
- Certificates of Achievement
- Letters to Parents
- School prizes and awards
- Role of Prefect/Mentor
- Rotary Service Prizes
The vast majority of our students behave in a respectful manner at all times. School expectations are kept as simple as possible and are carefully explained to students at the time of their admission. There are, however, occasions when we have to use a variety of sanctions in order to correct inappropriate behaviour and attitudes.
Students may be detained for up to ten minutes after school on any day unless they have to catch a coach. If, however, they are to be detained for a longer period than this, day's notice is given so that parents can make arrangements for their child's journey home. A report system may be used so that staff can comment on behaviour and work. This report is then brought home each evening for signature.
Bullying, disruption of the work of others and rudeness to staff will not be tolerated. Serious misbehaviour of this nature may lead to internal or even fixed term or permanent exclusion.
